Initially, the area was a barren landscape, but Sankey envisioned a sprawling botanical garden that would serve as a focal point for the city’s administrative district. Spanning over 300 acres of lush greenery, the park is home to over 6,000 trees, iconic heritage buildings like the Attara Kacheri, and the second-largest aquarium in India. The Centre for Environment Education (CEE), India, in the year 2006, embarked on a project to develop a brochure on the park and involve the youth in several activities to help them to explore the park and through it, learn more about the wider environment. In 2000, the library was awarded the Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation Award for the best state central library in India in recognition of its outstanding contribution to meritorious services rendered in the spread of knowledge and gearing up of library movement in the city of Bengaluru in particular and in the state of Karnataka in general. The memorial building is ensconced in the middle of the park, framed by the greenery of the park and fronted by the rose garden.

The park is home to almost 6000 species of plants as well as trees. Adorned with countless flowers, floral species, shaded groves, trees, the landscape of the park looks beautiful and graceful. Located in a central part of the city, Sri Chamarajendra Park is well connected by road and metro, with the Cubbon Park metro station offering direct access.

The area of the zoo was again extended to over 80 acres over a period of few years. Although initially the area of zoo was 10.3 acres, in 1907, an additional area of 6.22 acres was merged with the zoo, while later it was again increases to an area of 45 acres. In 1948, the administration of zoo was shifted to Horticulture department from palace. This was done in respect to the king Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur whose efforts led to the establishment of this zoo.
